Fred VanVleet of the Toronto Raptors has announced a scholarship for a Black or Indigenous student at the University of Toronto. Fred VanVleet of the Toronto Raptors continues to make a positive impact in the community.

VanVleet and Rotman Commerce announced the creation of the “Fred VanVleet Scholarship,” which will provide four years of tuition and books to a Black, or Indigenous student pursuing an undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto.

VanVleet is also “committed to mentoring the selected recipient.”

“This scholarship is important because it’s going to shine light on some of those who may be underserved, or underprivileged in certain communities and aspects”, VanVleet said.

“We know there’s a selection process to a lot of different scholarships and sometimes that counts people out”.

We’re just trying to make a concerted effort to shine a light on those who may have not gotten a proper opportunity”.
