uOttawa launches country’s first research centre focused on Black health.
The University of Ottawa has established the country’s first research centre solely dedicated to improving the health of Canada’s Black community.
The Interdisciplinary Centre for Black Health’s mission is to research and address the biological, social, economic, and cultural factors that contribute to health problems in the Black community.
“If you want to understand the health of people in the Black community, you have to understand the economic and social determinants of health”, According to the initiative’s driving force, uOttawa psychology professor Jude Mary Cénat.
The first research project of the centre will look into vaccination in the Black community.
